Greyhound Information

Greyhounds are natural hunters and have the potential to hurt small animals inadvertently.

Greyhounds are "sight hounds" and can see an object move at a quarter mile on the horizon. They can reach 40 mph in just over 3 strides.

Many foster greyhounds come from unknown circumstances. Even if they are normally well-behaved greyhounds, most have a couple accidents in the house during the adjustment period and some also might chew furniture or other items left within reach. This is a very important reality with fostering.

Occasionally we have dogs classified as "Special Needs Dogs" (over 6 years old, shy, past broken bones, etc...).

Home Visit

Racing Home Greyhound Adoption routinely arranges a home visit with all new foster homes homes. The goal is not to check for cleanliness or housekeeping, but to make sure that the home is or could be compatible with the lifestyle of a greyhound. The yard is checked to make sure it is securely fenced, the sleeping area for the greyhound is inspected, and toilet duties for the greyhound are discussed.
